The Internet Isn’t Fun Anymore - What Happened to the Internet We Loved?

When I was 14 the internet was very innocent. It was fun. It was neat. Who would of thought we could access the information, and do simple things all through a dial up connection. That was 26 years ago. But I am noticing some changes about how it is treated today.
I have already spoken about how it can change human behavior via social media. But now I am noticing a different vibe. It's not just social media. It is the fact you look at everything, and you see the same crap over and over. The longer you are on it the more you realize how repetitive it can get.
When I was young I was always in chat rooms. When you couldn't connect to the internet I listened to the radio while reading teen magazines. Before all that I was a kid climbing trees so high that it worried my parents. Fear was different back then.
Now I look at kids and toddlers who own an ipad or an iphone. They are just taking it for granted, and show high levels of anxiety when it's all taken a way from them. Then you got the Gen Z'ers who just want to escape social media even if it is only for a fleeting moment or period of time so they would know what it was like to switch off, and feel better about their mental health. Kudos to them, by the way!
Right now I am seeing 110 world leaders using it to mess up our world even more. Power equals dopamine rush. I have said that sort of thing before. Here we are just waiting, watching, while some of us are actively protesting against monstrosities. The internet is even more an unsafe place now, and we cannot trust what these shady world leaders are going to do with it next.
I feel like my hope for the future of all this is on the line. It's always such a wait-and see. Maybe the internet’s innocence really is gone, and the only way around is that we can take a break from it is to temporarily disconnect. It is now the challenge of our time. Can't live with it, can't live without it.
