One Month down - Social Media Detox Complete

I just finished a full month-long social media detox, from July 27 to August 26, and honestly… it was eye-opening. I had been spending up to four hours a day scrolling—sometimes mindlessly, sometimes just avoiding tasks I knew I should be doing. I wasn’t lost without it—in fact, it felt like a big breath of fresh air.
I stuck to my plan every single day by making lists and committing to follow them. Instead of chasing constant dopamine hits from notifications, I gained focus, clarity, and space to think without the noise. I even had a calendar, crossing off each day as it came.
When I reactivated my accounts, I felt edgy and hesitant, not excited. I was actually drained and exhausted just from that first long moment of letting everyone know I was back. It was empowering to realize that stepping away didn’t disconnect me from the world—it made me more in tune with my own projects and priorities. It was
relaxing.
I’ve realized that social media is a tool, not a lifeline, and certainly not a competition against trolls, haters, or anyone else’s curated version of life. It’s easy to scroll mindlessly, react impulsively, or measure ourselves against others, but none of that serves my purpose or peace of mind. Instead, I choose to engage intentionally, with awareness and boundaries—using it to connect, learn, or create, rather than to prove anything. It’s a choice, a tool, and nothing more, and that perspective keeps me grounded.
If you’ve ever considered doing something like this, I highly recommend it. It’s okay to feel anxious or out of place, like you can’t live without it. Have a system in place: make lists, plan ahead, and be sure you genuinely want to commit. On top of that, do plenty of reading—really educate yourself. Anything you do for yourself is valuable, mentally, physically, and even spiritually.
As for me - It is back to the work I love doing.
